Reverend Robert N. Burkins, Sr. (President)
|
The Reverend Robert N. Burkins, Sr., has served as Senior Pastor of Elmwood United Presbyterian Church since May 1987. Rev. Burkins graduated from Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina and continued his education at Johnson C. Smith Seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia, where he earned the Master of Divinity degree and was recently appointed in 2008 as the Board of Directors President.
In 1994, Rev. Burkins’ progressive leadership prompted Elmwood to establish the Harambee Community Development Initiative, Inc., a nonprofit corporation housing the Harambee Family Academy, an Early Childhood Provider, as well as other community-based ventures. Most recently, Elmwood has expanded its missional initiatives under the Harambee umbrella with the establishment of the Women’s Empowerment Initiative, Harambee Music and Video Production Studio, and the Harambee Broadcasting Network. These ventures represent Rev. Burkins’ vision that Elmwood must continually impact not only their membership but to reach beyond the doors of the church and into the communities in which their sanctuaries are located.
